Now, you might be thinking, "What does Black history have to do with AI?" Well, a lot more than you might think! The truth is, Black scientists, engineers, and mathematicians have made incredible contributions to the field of AI, even though their stories often go untold.
So, let's shine a light on some of these amazing trailblazers and explore why diversity and inclusion are so crucial for building a better future with AI.
Hidden Figures No More: Celebrating Black Pioneers in AI
Dr. Mark Dean: Ever used a personal computer? You can thank Dr. Dean, a brilliant Black engineer who co-created the IBM personal computer and developed the ISA bus, a technology that allows us to connect devices like printers and modems to our computers.
Dr. Fei-Fei Li: This incredible woman is a leading AI researcher and the co-director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. Her work on computer vision and image recognition has paved the way for advancements in self-driving cars, medical imaging, and more.
